In 1972, Dwight Holmes joined H. Dean Rowe, FAIA in the formation of Rowe Holmes Associates Architects, a Tampa based firm whose work over the ensuing twenty years was recipient of over 100 design awards and was featured in numerous publications throughout the United States and abroad.

During this period in 1983, Peter M. Hepner, AIA joined the Rowe Holmes firm as an intern architect, and he has remained with Dwight Holmes for his entire career. Dwight Holmes and Dean Rowe separated their professional practices in 1992 at which time Dwight and Peter formed their present firm, Holmes Hepner & Associates Architects.

Rowe Holmes Associates Architects and its successor firms were recognized by FA/AIA during the millennium year as one of the outstanding firms in the state of Florida in the twentieth century. For the past eleven years, Holmes Hepner & Associates Architects has endeavored to maintain those standards of excellence in architecture. In 2004 Holmes Hepner & Associates Architects was recognized by both the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects and AIA Tampa Bay as Firm of the Year.

With an office in downtown Tampa, Holmes Hepner & Associates Architects has a staff of 13 people. During the past 10 years, the firm's primary focus has been institutional and corporate architecture. The firm has also undertaken a number of smaller projects such as banks, religious facilities, multi-family housing and single family residences. Dwight E. Holmes, FAIA and Peter M. Hepner, AIA are Principals of the firm. Jerry R. Miller, AIA is an Associate Principal and John Kidwell, AIA is an Associate with the firm.
